At a special session of the UN General Assembly on Pakistan on 19 August 2010, the Netherlands pledged a further €3.6 million for emergency aid to the flood victims. The money will go towards aid operations carried out by the World Food Programme (€2 million) and UNICEF (€1.6 million).
On 19 August, we celebrated the second World Humanitarian Day. People around the world paid tribute to the humanitarian aid workers who risk their lives in conflict zones every day.
The Netherlands is making one million euros available for emergency aid in flood-stricken Pakistan, foreign minister Maxime Verhagen announced today. The donation is a response to the international appeal for aid from the International Red Cross.
At a ceremony in Kamp Holland today, the Netherlands handed over command in Uruzgan to the Combined Task Force of the United States and Australia. The ceremony marked the end of four years in which the Netherlands played the lead role in the security and reconstruction of this Afghan province.
